This full-day tour is ideal for travelers eager to explore Crete’s rich culture, stunning landscapes, and ancient heritage — all in one unforgettable experience.
Set off with us on a scenic journey through the majestic mountains of Crete, where breathtaking nature, charming traditional villages, and fascinating legends come together. The day ends with a guided visit to the legendary Knossos Palace — a must-see for anyone interested in history and mythology.
Our first destination is the peaceful Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa. Nestled in a quiet setting, this sacred place is home to a community of nuns and features a revered icon of the Virgin Mary, believed by many to be miraculous. The monastery also showcases impressive 14th-century frescoes and religious artwork.
From there, we head to the Lasithi Plateau — a lush mountain valley located 850 meters above sea level, surrounded by the imposing Dikti Mountains. Dotted with 18 small villages, the plateau offers a glimpse into authentic Cretan life. You’ll see traditional white-sailed windmills and historic stone irrigation channels built during the Venetian era.
We continue to the village of Psychro, famous for the Dicteon Cave — the mythical birthplace of Zeus. Inside the cave, you’ll witness stunning rock formations, both hanging and rising, that create a dramatic natural wonder.
(Please note: if the cave is temporarily closed for maintenance, this stop will be replaced with extended time at other locations.)
Psychro is also known for its traditional pottery. You’ll visit a local workshop to watch skilled artisans shape beautiful ceramics using age-old techniques.
Next, we arrive in Tzermiado — the largest village on the plateau. This serene spot, surrounded by mountain views, is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a delicious lunch at a cozy local taverna serving authentic Cretan cuisine.
We finish the day at the iconic Knossos Palace — the ancient heart of the Minoan civilization, considered Europe’s first advanced society. A guided tour through the palace ruins brings to life the stories of King Minos, the mythical Minotaur, and the Labyrinth. With its mysterious past and stunning architecture, Knossos is a true highlight of any visit to Crete.
